"Transformed my life"
I was the typical community footballer, thought the body was too broken, too old, overweight and slow. Married with kids, spending my days on the mouse wheel of life, all the while not realising that I was spiralling into a state of depression.
An old family friend finally convinced me to come down to the club and train, “you’ll have a ball” he said. How right he was. Being back in the social environment of a community football club at age 37 rejuvenated my drive to commit to coming back week after week. Slowly but surely my health and fitness improved, I dropped some weight and people around me saw a huge improvement in my mood and my interactions with people around me.
Not only did Masters footy bring me back to playing “footy for fun” like the days as a kid, it inspired me to significantly improve my health. At 40 I took up triathlon to maintain fitness and focus on a goal while still playing football, and in 2023 I was able to win my second ever senior premiership, with a National Title representing Vic Country in 2023. It was beyond my wildest dreams that footy could be an option still at 47, given I considered myself “too broken” at 29.
Were it not for Masters football I genuinely don’t know where I’d be, I certainly wouldn’t be the energetic, happy, inspired person that I am today. That’s for sure!
